The Story Behind the Story

SpiderLady is a forgetful old lady that is constantly losing things that she owns. She loses things that she uses every day, and one time she even lost her house! SpiderLady has a pet spider, named Jim, who is her best friend. Jim always helps SpiderLady find the things that have been lost.

Join Spider Lady and Jim on their adventures of finding whatever she has lost that day for a silly, and fun adventure! Abby Bennett is an artistic young woman who loves to create things. SpiderLady Stories were invented by Betsy Hendrick, Bennett's late grand-mother. Abby got the idea to help her grandmother's legacy live on, by doing what she told her grandmother to do years ago: write down the stories. Bennett has written and illustrated this book in honor of her grandmother, B.

Every night that her grandchildren were in town, B would ask them,

“What is SpiderLady losing tonight?”

The kids would choose an item for SpiderLady to lose and B would fabricate a wonderful adventure of SpiderLady having to find the missing item.

Abby Bennett graduated from Texas A&M University in May of 2023 with a BA in Marketing Advertising as well as a minor in Design. Bennett has always loved being creative and drawing. Being able to bring this idea to life was a dream come true. The start of this book series and honoring her grandmother’s legacy have become one of her greatest accomplishments and passions.

“Ever since my grandmother passed away in 2018, it became my mission and passion to magnify her legacy by writing down her stories. I wrote and illustrated this first edition of The SpiderLady Stories in my free time while in high school and college. I hope to continue this series so that other kids can experience the magic of The SpiderLady Stories my grandmother created.

This story means so much to me and it is such a gift to be able to share it with the world.”
